Buddhadeva: Lord Buddha in Dhyana Mudra

Through his entire life, Lord Buddha used various methods to preach, of which mudras assumed a very prominent place. Dhyana Mudra, as carved in this Sandstone sculpture is one such and is used in contemporary times as well by yogis. This mudra is formed by placing both the hands on the lap with the right one on top of the left and palms facing upwards. Thumbs of both the hands are joined together forming a triangle which represents the three jewels of Buddhism, namely Lord Buddha, Sangha, and Dharma.
