Tapasi: The Lord’s Dynamism

The third member of the Hindu trinity, Shiva is known for being the Lord of destruction, whose legendary anger can reduce gods and men to ashes with just one look. However, Shiva is also known to have a softer side; known as Tapasi, he takes on a benevolent form and is known to grant magnificent boons to his most devout worshippers. This intricately carved Sandstone sculpture brings alive the benevolent householder incarnation of Shiva. Depicted as relaxing with his family on Mount Kailash, this magnificent sculpture features Shiva, his wife Parvati, his two children, Ganesha and Karthikeya and his royal mount as they enjoy an afternoon of bliss and serenity. The master craftsman's chisel perfectly captures Shiva's peaceful countenance and highlights his features as he enjoys his peace and quiet.

Muktidaya: Lord of Eternal Bliss

Ganesha, is one of the most revered deities in Sanatana Dharma. As Muktidaya, he is the ruler and the bestower of eternal bliss. Hence it is believed that every new journey in life that is initiated after offering prayers to the lord culminates with riches of favorable results. This wood carved sculpture in its grandeur depicts the lord in a sedentary position with his trunk turning to left. The trunk turning left symbolizes moon and the cool power of ida nadi in our psychic body. Pattachitra painters, who make paintings over a piece of cloth known as Patta or a dried palm leaf, specialize in this unique art-form since generations. Raghurajpur a heritage crafts village in Puri district, Odisha is famous for this centuries old craft-works which at least date back to 5 BC. A mixture of chalk and gum is used in unique proportion to create this beautiful piece.
